A Poem I Wrote for my Creative Writing Class

Key
Silver
Golden Brass
Sits in my hand
Heavy
It will not open any door
A chest
A locket
Or a gate
A key that is available to anyone
Everywhere
It takes on many different shapes and sizes and weight
Small enough to fit in your pocket or your bag
Yet large enough to fit under the crook of your arm
A key that cannot unlock anything
But can summon dragons
Make heroes
And create epic battles
To be whisked away to another world
I was young
When I found my first key
Sitting on my mother’s bed
Not cold nor metallic
Its spine strong yet flexible
Its groves created from paper
Its power unlimited
A key that could not open a door
Nor a chest
A locket
Or a gate
It unlocked my young mind
Introduced me to wizards and time travelers
Lead me through forests and caves
Gave me victory when all seemed lost
My mother told me of its wonder
But this wonder is for those who choose to wield it.
